There is no time of the year that is better than award season. Last night was perfect. I spent the night with good friends eating delicious home-made pizza and filling out ballots with our predictions for the Golden Globes. While my sister ultimately won with the most correct ballot I came in a close second. While I was happy with some of the winners there were some that I was disappointed in. Here is a recap on my opinions of the Golden Globes 2012:
While I did not like the movie the Descendants at all I was not surprised by George Clooney’s win as Best Actor in a Drama. While the movie did drag on Clooney did do a fantastic job. I was disappointed, however, with Meryl Streep win Best Actress in a Drama. I saw Iron Lady two nights ago and thought it was such a let down. While I love Meryl Streep, and she did do a fantastic job, the movie was almost too artistic. I would have liked the movie better if it had been almost more historical and less set in present day. I would have rather seen Glenn Close get the Golden Globe for Albert Nobbs or Rooney Mara for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
I was very happy Kate Winslet got the Golden Globe for her role in Mildred Pierce but I was dissappointed that Downtown Abbey got the award for best Mini-Series. I loved both Cinema Vertie and Mildred Pierce.
I was SOO happy that Laura Dern got the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Enlightened. I am obsessed with that show and I am so glad that it got the recognition it deserved. That said I was very upset that once again the amazing Modern Family got the Golden Globe for best Comedy or Musical. While I know everyone loves the show I personally would have liked to seen Enlightened get it. Atleast Glee did not win the award for the third year in a row!
Overall, I was happy in all with the majority of the awards and now I know what movies I need to see before the Academy Awards in February!
